In the beginning, Ms. Jean Bernheim founded the store in 1976. Ms. Bernheim is the mother of the current owner, Shelia Hamaker. Jean brought her knowledge and passion for the natural/organic marketplace to Shreveport from Midland, Texas. Jean is an early pioneer in bringing natural/organic foods and supplements to the Ark-La-Tex. She went against the mainstream push for adulterated products in the mass market stores. Jean understood that a return to “clean” foods and natural supplements is the the key for a healthier life. As a result, she embraced this practice with her own family and offered all people an option to what was available in the general marketplace. Her vision and drive has been rewarded many times over from the overwhelming support of the many customers who join Sunshine Health Foods in its mission.
The mission of Sunshine Health Foods is to “Offer the consumer a healthier, cleaner product than is available in most of the marketplace and to assist all people who recognize that each individual must take control of their own health needs!”
Jean’s daughter, Shelia, joined in this mission in 1980. Her family continues to support the Ark-La-Tex area. Shelia continues to educate the public about the benefits of natural / organic foods and natural supplements. From this education and from her product offerings, she is able to assist people in maintaining optimal health.
Shelia is driven to offer the best customer service that is available because that is what her customers deserve. She continues to train the employees of Sunshine Health Foods to offer knowledge and guidance to each and every person entering Sunshine Health Foods. Many of the employees you encounter at other stores are the product of Shelia’s passion and commitment to helping others. Shelia continues to offer the best products in the industry and the best customer care that can be found. It is the goal of each of Sunshine Health Food’s employees to offer this same level of service each and every day.
